WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT ?

First of all, let me explain my blog title:
Raleigh - INSIDE&OUT.

If you were born in the old Rex Hospital in the early 50's like I was, you weren't born INSIDE the Beltline. You were just born and lived IN Raleigh. Period.

It wasn't until the early 80's, when the Cliff Benson Beltline was finished that homes and their residents and pets were assigned the titles "Born Inside The Beltline" or "All Those Other People," otherwise known as "Outside The Beltline."

As a result, at the ripe old age of 30-something, I became an Inside The Beltliner through no fault of my own except being born to parents that owned a home on St. Mary's Street.

So, now let me explain what you'll be doing here. You will be following my journey, through sketching and lettering, while I meander Inside and Outside the Beltline.

I'm new at this, so I hope I either give you inspiration to try your hand at it as well, a boost to your ego because you've found someone who's not as good as you are (yet), or at least a good laugh!

In any case, come with me. Be my passenger. And let's enjoy this journey together!!

This is not a journal page, but in endeavoring to learn more artistic avenues, I took this class today using acrylics. Since I hardly ever use acrylics, this was a very good class to take in which it was broken down into doable pieces. Wouldn't this look grand on a journal page?

Old Salem Page

Going to Old Salem was a treat. It does not take large amounts of time. But the memories stick with you. We have been enjoying the Moravian cookies we bought as well as the chocolate pound cake.

This page was all in colored pencils. No watercolors. So the colors are muted.

I designed this page in the style of Milliande after I saw one of her youtube videos. She calls this Grid Journaling. Check her out!

UNC-TV Page Eight

This neither scanned well nor did well when photographed! I will take more time with it next go round for you. But I wanted to get in this first step of the process I am doing.

Last night I watched a movie on UNC-TV called Page Eight. As I was sitting there, I had the urge to sketch! So I decided to sketch bits and pieces of what was on that show. I am definitely not done yet...have more layers to put on. But I am having fun with this. I hope it turns out well in the end!!

And I'll tell you what everything is at that time.

The Cotton Field

This is a cotton field that we passed on our way home from Delaware. There were fields and fields of them, ripe for the pickin'. Since I was not the driver, I'd sit, mesmerized by it all. And wishing I could sketch it.

The Barn

I was in Lewes, Delaware all last week and was fascinated by this barn. Every time I passed it, I just had to stare at it. Finally had my girlfriends pull over onto the side of the road so that I could cross it in mid-traffic, in the rain, and take photographs...it was a misty, overcast day.

At some point, I will sketch this barn! Thanks to the image I now have to look at whenever I want!

Fun with Tiles

Do you have a stack of unused bathroom tiles sitting in your garage/attic? Well, here's a little something you can do with them. This is fun!

Alcohol inks and stamps.
